If you have a Facebook page, please join our group - Envoy Esteem Patients Group: http://www.facebook.com/messages/100001929337682#!/groups/241235109304753/. You'll find several Esteem patients and read various experiences with the implant - ranging from great success and less than ideal experiences. You'll also be able to reach out to others who are also researching the Esteem implant. You're welcome to ask any questions, or share your own experience as a patient. There's even a list of Esteem blogs like my own. Perhaps you've heard of Sarah Churman and her Youtube video of her Esteem activation that went viral overnight: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LsOo3jzkhYA. You can meet her in the group as well. We currently have 47 members in the group. Hope to see you there!

Mandy I am currently in process of having the implant.
I was wondering if you remember your word recognition
score before the implant and the score after the implant.
I am scared I can not pass with a 40%.

Questions about Esteem

I got your name and blog site from Doug Mittlesteadt of Envoy Medical. I've got tons of questions. I am hoping we can talk sometime. I'm not on facebook. How can I get in touch with you - would you be willing to share your phone number or email address?

Thank you for setting up a cool blog and way to express our similarities. I am not at the point of getting an implant. I am just trying to figure out this silent world.

About to become a kindred spirit!
I'm due to go under the knife on November 9th for my first of 2 implants. I'm a 40 year old father of 3 and public school teacher. Quite frankly, hearing aids suck! I'm tired of wearing floppy hats to my kids' soccer games on cloudy days, on being totally useless at the YMCA pool in the water, and missing what the tour guide is saying while kayaking on vacation. My GN Resound Live aids are junk and are in the shop every 6 months. If the Esteem can simply get me to the same level as my current aids yet be 100% waterproof and invisible, it'll be worth it to me. But to read all of the posts about what people can actually hear now has got me super excited!! I know there will be a relearning curve when I get them, but I'm ready. It can't be any worse than the excuses I make to avoid wrestling with my son or running with my friends because of my aids.

New member of deafandhoh
Hi. My name is Lora and I'm a 46 year old HOH woman. I've done the faking it til I make it all my life and raised a wonderful son on my own. Several years ago I had a breakdown, after I got my son through 2 years of college and he moved out, I just fell apart. I had the same wonderful friends for more than 30 years and they've been pulling away from me and vice versa because I'm tired of faking it. I'm on disability right now because I just fell apart, but I don't want to stay like this. I've been reading your journal about the Esteem and I've never heard of it. Is it like the cochlear implant? I have severe hearing loss in my left ear and profound loss in my right. I know all about losing aids or my dog getting a hold of them. In fact, right now, I only have one aid. I had knee replacement surgery 2 months ago and due to the pain meds they had me on, I've lost the aid for my right ear. I didn't write to talk about me though, I wanted to commend you for the way you live your life. I'm so happy that things are working out for you and I'm going to have to learn more about it. I've just been researching deaf and hoh on the internet for about 6 months and just knowing I'm not alone has lifted a great deal of my depression. I'm anxious to get better and get back out to get a job. I've been single and taking care of myself since my son was 3. He's 24 now and I just won't let anyone close enough to me to date anymore. My email is Lora.Louderback@gmail.com if you would ever like to email me.
God Bless you and know that your journal helps people feel better! Best of luck to you!
